2019

200×90 cm

About Hanji Paper: Korea adopted the practice of making this paper after its introduction in China in the first century. Hanji paper is believed to have been invented by Buddhists between the 3rd and 4th centuries, during the Three Kingdoms of Korea. “Hanji will last you 1000 years, but the best silk will last only 500,” and it’s true! In fact, the oldest printed book in the world that has survived to this day is a Buddhist sutra printed on Hanji paper in Korea in 751. Hanji is a traditional Korean handmade paper made from the bark of the mulberry tree. It is strong enough to support the weight of an average-sized person. This environmentally friendly, breathable paper is used for sewing clothes – it retains heat and allows air to pass through. Historical documents were written on Hanji paper; artists, designers, calligraphers create objects of art and decor from it.
